Why This Matters
Healthcare Is Under Pressure
Documentation Instead of Treatment
Physicians spend more time in front of screens than with patients. Discharge summaries, progress notes. All necessary, all time-consuming. Information scattered across disconnected systems.
Data in Closed Ecosystems
Clinical teams collect enormous amounts of data on a daily basis. Most of it remains unused, locked in closed systems. Technology is needed to consolidate data and surface what matters.
Demographics Won't Wait
Fewer graduates, more patients, higher complexity. The shortage of skilled professionals is structural. AI assistants that reason and actively support patient care are the answer.
Our Products
From Model to Product. All Under One Roof.
IDM trains its own AI models, builds its own speech recognition, and develops the applications that bring both into clinical practice. No reselling. No wrappers. Full control from model core to user interface.
ARGO: The Clinical Platform
IDMBase connects a hospital's systems and converts their data to FHIR. ARGO modules for individual documentation tasks run on top of it, today discharge letters, nursing documentation and private billing. At UKE since 2024, at Schön Klinik since August 2026.
ORPHEUS: AI Speech Recognition for Healthcare
Speech recognition built for medical language. Specialist terminology, dialects, background noise. For physicians, nurses, and administrators alike. Works with virtually any microphone, in virtually any system. New in version 3.2: templates, custom vocabulary, and English.
Vertical Integration
Own the Model, Own the Quality.
From training to application to clinical feedback. All in one loop. Every use improves the model. Every model update improves the product. From the model to the compute, we build and run all of it ourselves.
When you build the product, you understand the user. IDM does both.

From Medicine. For Medicine.
Built Where Medicine Happens.
IDM is a non-profit subsidiary of UKE Hamburg, one of Germany's largest university medical centers. Development, operations and responsibility for the software sit with IDM, rolled out across hospitals and practices throughout Germany. Our developers work side by side with the clinicians who use our systems. No venture capital. No exit pressure. No interest in locking hospitals in.
We believe healthcare cannot serve patients well in the future without AI. That is why this technology must be responsible, explainable, and accessible to all.
IDM doesn't need hospital partnerships. IDM is part of one.
Real clinical data
ARGO is built in the development partnership with UKE, on extensive clinical documentation data.
Data Sovereignty
Developed, trained, and operated in Germany. No data shared with third parties.
Open Architecture
Runs on your infrastructure. Works with virtually any HIS. Open standards, data export available.
Non-profit
What we earn goes back into development. Our job is to make medical AI broadly available, for clinicians and for patients.

Frequently Asked Questions about IDM
What is IDM?
IDM gGmbH (Innovative Digitale Medizin) is a non-profit subsidiary of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), founded in 2024. It builds medical AI. ORPHEUS for speech recognition and ambient documentation, ARGO as the platform for clinical documentation.
What is the difference between ORPHEUS and ARGO?
ORPHEUS is the AI speech recognition for dictation and ambient documentation in hospitals and practices. ARGO is the platform for clinical documentation, with modules for discharge letters, nursing documentation and private billing. Both products are built entirely by IDM, from model to application.
Are ORPHEUS and ARGO GDPR-compliant?
Yes, and it is verifiable. Development, training and operations take place in Germany, optionally entirely on your hospital's own compute infrastructure. With on-premise operation, patient data never leaves your site. In the cloud option, processing and hosting take place in Germany, with no non-European cloud services.
Where does the training data come from?
That differs by product. ORPHEUS learns from the everyday clinical work of its users, and only where they explicitly release their dictations for it. Users decide on that release at first login and can change the setting at any time. Without a release, nothing is stored for model development. ARGO is built in the development partnership with UKE on extensive clinical documentation data, processed under the strict data protection requirements of a university hospital. No wrapper around third-party APIs.
How can my hospital or practice get started?
You can try ORPHEUS for free right away, registration takes a few minutes. For ARGO and hospital deployments, the best route is booking a demo via our contact page.
