About IDM
As a 100% nonprofit subsidiary of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), IDM gGmbH builds sovereign AI for tomorrow's healthcare.
Our solutions ARGO and ORPHEUS are already proving themselves in daily use at 30+ hospitals (including four university hospitals) and more than 200 outpatient practices. We build for maximum data sovereignty — on-premise or in secured cloud environments. Real innovation needs real trust.
We are scaling from a successful hospital deployment into a sharp product organization, reshaping day-to-day clinical work with modern technology.
The Role
As Product Strategist you are the bridge between two worlds: the outside world of hospitals, partners, and clinical requirements — and the inside world of our engineering teams building ARGO and ORPHEUS.
What's special about this role: You make sure our teams understand the problems worth solving. You bring clinical reality, market trends, and strategic context together, creating the ground on which product decisions — owned by the teams themselves — can grow.
You report to the CEO, who plugs you into the world of hospital partnerships, stakeholders, and market dynamics. With the CTO you work closely on technical possibilities and product direction. You move between both worlds and keep them connected.
What You Will Do
Understand the outside world
- Go into hospitals and watch how physicians and nurses actually work — not from a conference room, on the ward.
- Build and maintain relationships with clinical partners, hospital IT, and stakeholders at every level.
- Track competitors, regulatory shifts, and technology trends in the healthcare IT market.
- Filter and validate external demands — separate real clinical needs from noise and politics.
Bring context into the teams
- Translate what you learn in the clinical world into clear, validated problem statements — with data, user quotes, and context.
- Keep the product roadmap alive as a document that reflects both clinical needs and technical reality.
- Coordinate hospital visits for engineers and help the whole team understand clinical workflows firsthand.
- Package strategic market analyses and trends so they can feed into product decisions.
Connect both worlds
- When a hospital demands a feature that doesn't make technical sense — find a better way.
- When the team discovers something that shifts product direction — carry that signal back to stakeholders.
- Protect the teams from external pressure and keep them connected to real user problems at the same time.
- Challenge the CEO's assumptions with data. Challenge the CTO's assumptions with user reality. Be honest to both.
What We Are Looking For
Must Have
- 5+ years in product strategy, product management, or a comparable role at a software company.
- Experience in clinical IT or healthcare software is strongly preferred. If KIS, RIS, or PDMS sound familiar, you are in the right place.
- The ability to sit with a nurse for an hour, understand her frustration, and come back with a clear, solvable problem — not a feature list.
- Communication at eye level with software engineers as well as with hospital executives.
- Strong analytical thinking and the discipline to say no to things that don't matter.
- Initiative and the ability to work independently and strategically — this role runs on the will to shape.
- Fluent German and English.
Strong Plus
- An understanding of AI/NLP concepts and how they apply in healthcare.
- Experience with empowered engineering teams that own product decisions.
- Experience at the intersection of regulated environments and innovation.
- A network in the German hospital IT ecosystem.
- You have read Marty Cagan and it resonated.
What We Offer
- Shape the product direction of AI-powered clinical tools — with real impact on patient care.
- Work directly with CEO and CTO as a strategic partner at eye level.
- Direct access to clinical users and hospital partners. Real feedback from real wards, no abstract personas.
- An engineering culture that favors understanding over process, outcomes over output.
- Hybrid working model with office in Hamburg-Eppendorf.
- A nonprofit mission: better healthcare through technology.
